Update #8

With your help, we passed the finish line. Thank you!
Over the past two weeks together, through sharing and donating as a community, we have been able to raise a total of $15,775 (including Off the Grid’s initial $5K match). This money has allowed us to serve 1,260 meals, thus far, at seven locations. An additional 350 meals are being prepared to serve later this week. Thank you to everyone who donated so generously to this cause during a time when so many are struggling. Grocery Store Employees have shared with us how much it meant to them to receive a comforting meal, made with care, in a time of so much uncertainty and fear.

We'd also like to thank the Creators, who helped us feed these hard-working employees. If you're looking for ways to continue your support, we urge you to visit many Off the Grid Creators who are still operating and offering takeout and or delivery options. Additionally, please keep in touch with us as we continue to launch initiatives for the community who continue to suffer during this pandemic.

Thank you, all. Stay safe, and be kind.

More Info

We’re all feeling the impact of the Coronavirus pandemic in our everyday lives, both mentally and physically. Since the announcement of COVID-19 hitting the Bay Area in rapid form and the issuance of “shelter-in-place” the critical need that grocery stores play in allowing us all to practice social isolation has never been clearer. Grocery Store employees are working incredibly long hours, while also experiencing a heightened sense of anxiety with increased potential exposure on the front lines of our community response. But who is feeding them?

At Off the Grid, we’re announcing our intention to do something comforting for our local heros. With the initial goal of raising 5K, Off the Grid is asking for your support. Off the Grid will be matching the first 5,000 dollars contributed to the campaign. By raising 10k, we can together serve up to 1000 meals in this first phase. Our continued goal is to feed as many grocery store employees as we can in the Bay Area and will do our best with your support.

By donating you will provide more than just a warm, nutritious meal, you will be thanking them for all their hard work during this time of uncertainty. We’ve worked with our community of 170 small food businesses to curate multi-day care packages that will provide 4-5 meals for these employees and their families. Your dollar goes a long way — each donation of just $50 will provide 5 meals per employee. OTG is waiving management fees for the initial 5k raised and our 5k match.

With safety and sanitation more vital than ever before, we want to share with you the steps we are taking while on the ground feeding these hard-working employees to adhere to sanitary and safety standards.

Off the Grid employees are required to wear both masks and gloves when onsite and maintain a 6-foot distance from all other people in the space. We also guide guests to do the same. Our staff also place tape strips on the ground 6’ apart for line management to maintain social distancing requirements, with a tape 3’ line from the window of the truck to keep guests far enough from the window but close enough to grab the meals. Off the Grid staff and the creators wipe down all guest areas once an hour, as well as the retail counters and POS screen. All creators and staff are required to wear nitrile gloves and mask at all times.

Thank you in advance for your generosity during a time where the impact of this pandemic is being felt broadly and creating anxiety for many. Let’s make a gesture of giving and create some joy.

In the spirit of giving,

The Off the Grid Team

Update #6

Your contributions are truly making an impact.

With your donations, we served another 50 Grocery Store Employees at the Bay Street Safeway in San Francisco. Each employee walked away with a smile on their face and a bag filled with two scrumptious meals. We also received this card from the staff, thanking us for thinking of them. This card further confirms why this initiative is so important during these difficult times.

We’re only 2K away from hitting our goal which we hope to achieve this week with your support! Thanks for your continued caring and please don’t forget to spread the word!

Update #5

Thanks to you, we've raised over $7.5K in 15 days to support the hard-working Grocery Store Employees throughout the Bay Area — help us reach our $10K goal! Over the past week, your donations have allowed us to serve 960 comforting meals to Supermarket Employees at four Bay Area locations. Through these donations, we have also been able to continue to support our mobile food partners, who are struggling during this time of uncertainty.

Here's an update on our latest efforts:

With your help, our mobile food partners served 360 meals yesterday and are set to serve another 100 meals tomorrow at the Bay Street Safeway in San Francisco. Bombzies BBQ joined us in serving 60 employees at the Alameda Nob Hill during lunch yesterday. Employees left thankful and appreciative of our support. In the afternoon, 3-3-3 Truck served another 60 grateful employees at the Emeryville Pak ‘N Save.

Please continue to spread the word to help us support our mobile-food Creators and Grocery Store Employees and help us reach our new goal of $10K!

Update #4

Thanks to you, we've raised over $6K in just over a week!

Here’s what your donations have funded so far:
Last Friday, we coordinated the drop off of 600 meals to 120 Grocery Store Employees: Little Green Cyclo served 350 meals to Safeway Employees at 1335 Webster St in San Francisco, and Wokitchen served 250 meals to employees at the 2350 Noriega St Safeway. Each employee left with a bag filled with five meals to share with their family. The distribution of these meals was warmly received and appreciated.

Due to the overwhelming response and requests from additional grocery stores, we've upped our fundraising goal to $10K. By hitting our new goal, we will be able to serve more than 500 additional meals!

Next stop: the East Bay. Check back on the donation page or on our social media channels to get the latest updates on where and with whom we’ll be serving meals.

We hope you’ll continue to support these efforts and help us spread the word. EVERY DOLLAR counts and will help us serve delicious food to as many employees as possible.

Update #3

Yesterday with your help, we served the first 600 meals to Safeway employees at two San Francisco locations. Each employee walked away with five meals to bring home with them to share with their family. Just a few moments ago, we hit a milestone of raising 5,000 dollars, which will allow us to feed even more grocery store employees next week. We want to thank everyone who helped us get to this point. Let’s keep the momentum going and serve even more meals. The more we raise, the more grocery store employees we’ll be able to thank for their hard work through a comforting meal and the more we will be able to support Off the Grid’s Creator community. Keep sharing, and stay safe!
